A force for positive change in Wilmington’s medical community for thirty-three years, Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi continues practicing medicine even though he could retire at any time. “The spirituality behind medicine, this reaching out and helping people every day – that is what keeps me at work”, he explains. “Patients are like family to me. They rely on me to take care of them. This is the most satisfying aspect of my work.”

Because of his expertise; he not only has received media attention but has also published several papers in highly regarded medical journals such as the British Medical Journal. In addition, he was the guest of the Chinese government in 1995 to promote modern surgery in various medical centers.

Although Dr. Goudarzi still offers the full range of general surgical services, including laparoscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopy, laparoscopic and thyroid surgery, in recent years the treatment of venous insufficiency of the lower extremity (varicose veins, spider veins, stasis leg ulcers, lower extremity edema and abnormal skin changes) has become an increasingly integral portion of his practice.
He is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a diplomat of the American Board of Phlebology (phlebology being the specialty that treats varicose veins and related diseases). In a recent interview Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi said “ I am very proud of the capabilities that we possess in my surgical practice, including a state of the art vascular lab as well as the most up-to-date lasers and other modalities that can treat tortuous and distended varicosities, leg pain, swelling, discoloration of the lower extremities, ulcerations and abnormal pigmentation and rashes of the legs”. Because of his extensive experience in vascular general surgery and phlebology, he is capable of adopting the best possible treatment for each relevant disease.
